Is a put bet the same as a place bet?

larry i have always known a put bet to be the same as doing a place bet on the point after the point has been established. the bet is laid on the line between the pass line bet area and the outside border u describe it as being more of a pass line bet after the point please explain

Hi Mike

A put bet is not a place bet as it pays off 1:1. If the point is 6 or 8, for example and you make a $12 put bet, you win $12. On a $12 place bet you would win $14. The advantage to the put bet, of course, is that you can add odds to it.

Good luck,

Larry
